A former Kankakee resident was killed in a plane crash over the weekend in Florida. 54 year old Ted Mortell was on company charter twin-engine Piper aircraft along with three others and the pilot, everyone was killed when the plane went down in Lake Okeechobee as it came in for a landing in Palm Beach. The Daily Journal reports Mortell had relocated to Stuart, Florida where he was working as an attorney. The Bishop Mac grad leaves behind a wife and three grown sons. The crash remains under investigation.
