Body pulled from the Kankakee River Identified

A Bradley resident is dead following a crash that ended up with his car in the Kankakee River. Chief Deputy Kankakee County Coroner Eric Cavender says 20-year-old Nasir A. Douglas of Bradley was pronounced dead about five tonight when his car with his body inside were pulled from the river. Just before nine this morning Kankakee Fire Department rescue crews were called to the river near the 600 block of South Indiana Avenue because of a report of a car in the river. That car was pulled from the river about five last night. Kankakee Fire Chief Damon Schuldt says there was one man found inside the car. The body was transported to the coroners office who will continue the investigation with the Kankakee Police Department. Schuldt says earlier reports of a person seen swimming in the area of the crash proved to be false and the person found in the car is believed to have been alone in the car when the accident happened.Schuldt said high water levels and currents made the recovery effort that much more difficult
Schuldt also thanked the other local fire and law enforcement agencies as well as the Department of Natural Resources for their help with the search.
