Kankakee’s on going Riverwalk project has been awarded a share of over 3 million dollars in state grants.  The city will receive 96,000 dollars to support land acquisition and improvements. The Daily Journal reports today that Kmart is closing its 1.5 million Sq. foot distribution center in Manteno.  It will also mean the loss of 130 jobs as of March 27 th.   The paper says employees got the news at a meeting this morning.
