Man Stabbed at Party

A man was stabbed in the back last night at a party in the 700 block of North Convent in Bourbonnais.  Police say the wound was not serious and the victim opted not to be hospitalized.  No word on what set off the incident; police say nobody at the party is cooperating.


Double Fatal

Two people were killed and two others were hurt in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon at Rt. 24 at Oppyville road in Iroquois County.  Illinois State police say a vehicle driven by 84 year old John Dowling drifted into oncoming traffic.   He was pronounced dead at the scene, wife, 84 year old Reta Dowling died later at the hospital.  Two others in the second vehicle suffered non-life threatening.

Woman Shoots Up at Work

A Diamond, Illinois woman is being held on 20,000 dollars bond after she was arrested for allegedly shooting up while at work.  Coal City police say they were called to a convenience store on Division Street June 9th after a fellow employee found a hypodermic syringe in the bathroom.  Police say 24 year old Sarah Biggerstaff admitted to shooting up at work after a search turned up syringes on Biggerstaff along with small bags of suspected heroin.


Where’s Spunky?

Have you seen Spunky?  Spunky is a Russian tortoise who has been missing from his Waldron Road home since June 6th. He was last seen on Julie Drive.  Spunky is described as 5 or 6 inches in size with a long beak and likes to hang out in bushes.  His family of 8 years is eager for Spunky’s return.  If  you see him call the Daily Journal.


Shots Reported in Kankakee

Sources are telling us of multiple shots fired Saturday in Kankakee.  We’re told shell casings were found in the 300 block of North Wildwood.  No one was reported hurt.  No word yet on any arrests.  We hope to have more later from city police.

Brush Fire Set Crib on Fire

A brush fire is being blamed for setting a crib on fire Saturday afternoon in rural Washington Township.  Brook, Indiana fire officials say a hot ember flew onto the roof of the crib setting it and a cupola on fire.  No one was hurt.  Fire was contained to the roof.


$100,000 bond for Repeat DUI Driver

A Bourbonnais man with 4 prior convictions for driving under the influence is being held on 100,000 dollar’s bond in Grundy County. Sheriff’s police say 38 year old Jamie Shelton was arrested June 9th after reportedly being in an accident near Collins and Dresden roads while driving on a revoke license. If convicted, Shelton could get up to 15 years.

Kankakee Man Guilty in Cell Phone Store Robbery

A Kankakee man was convicted Thursday in Federal Court in Urbana for his part in a July 2016 Cell Phone Store Armed Robbery in Champaign. It took the jury less than an hour to find 28 year old Randy Williams guilty of being one of four men who to tied up the employees and took about 50,000 dollars in merchandise along with the phones of the employees. It was one of those phone police tracked that led to the arrest of two of the four a short time later. During the trial the defense never had a good explanation for how one of the employees cell phones ended up inside Williams vehicle. Williams could get 20 years behind bars at sentencing.

Armour Road Bridge Reopens For Now

The Illinois Department of Transportation has reopened all 4 lanes of the Armour Road overpass at the Canadian National Railroad. The upgrade that began April 2nd is only a prelude to a much longer duration project that will reduce traffic again on the bridge maybe as early as next year as IDOT begins work on a complete replacement of the Armour Road railway overpass.


New Born Dies

The LaSalle County Coroner’s office says foul play is not suspected in the death of a new born baby early this week. Officials say a woman showed up at a nearby hospital Thursday after delivering a baby in her rural Seneca home Wednesday. Police found the baby body in the homes bathroom after the mother told hospital authorities about the birth.
