No one was injured when fire broke out at a home in the 600 block of South Chicago Avenue in Kankakee early Sunday morning. Kankakee Fire Chief Damon Schuldt says firefighters were called to the home about 1:30 Sunday morning. The fire caused extensive damage to the rear and second story of the home, but those inside were able to get out because of working smoke detectors. The Red Cross helped the couple find a place to stay. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Schuldt says it does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
