Kankakee Police make murder arrest

Just after seven last night, Kankakee City Police say they were called to 300 block of South Wildwood Avenue for a report of shots fired. During the investigation, officers located a man who was wanted in connection with an alleged shooting over the weekend. Reports say the Sunday shooting injured two men. One of them, identified as 26-year-old Marquise J. Smith of Kankakee later died of his wounds. 21-year-old Dejour J. Turner-Owens was booked into the Jerome Combs Detention Center by City Police last night on a preliminary murder charge. Formal charges are expected to be filed by the State’s Attorney’s office tomorrow.
